THE WORLD IS SAVED: Gamer Music Video
The music video for Danny Wiessner's latest single, The World Is Saved, debuted on the live recording of Podcast Beyond Episode 200, a weekly podcast from the Video Gaming website IGN.com. It was met with acclaim at the show and the proud smiles of a few devoted members of the IGN community: Danny, Pandamusk, Ben, Michael, and Sam.
The project originated from a tradition on Podcast Beyond: end the show with a song. Years ago, the Podcast Panel would improvise a song, but then they started to play pieces of music that were submitted to them by IGN fans. Danny Wiessner, an IGN reader, student, and composer of music, submitted a few songs to Beyond that became fast favorites.
Danny emailed editor Ryan Clements months prior to Podcast Beyond 200 and told him that he would love to debut his latest work on our show. Ryan was immediately taken with "The World Is Saved," thanks to his deep connection with role-playing games, so he suggested they debut it on their live 200th episode. More importantly, Ryan urged him to produce a music video. Danny agreed and asked if Ryan could help collect artists for the project.
With a deadline of just a few short weeks, Ryan tasked Beyond volunteers pandamusk, Benjamin A. Smith, Michael Hruby, and Sam Alegria with animating a music video in their free time, with no budget. And without any further guidance, Sam contacted Ryan at 11:00PM the night before the live show with the finished product.
The World Is Saved music video is an incredible collaboration by a group of strangers that were brought together by their mutual interest in Podcast Beyond. It's a video that resonates with with all gamers and captures the melancholy of an adventure's end. And Danny's words remind all gamers exactly why we play games.
